The band competed at the Area Championships on Sunday 23rd on Morley Calvert’s classic test piece: Introduction, Elegy and Caprice. Having pre-drawn to be in the second half of competing bands, we met in Blackpool for an 11am rehearsal ahead of the afternoon draw.
Our section is very tight so we were especially keen to put in a good performance. On stage there may have been an element of player nerves but the musicality of Adie’s interpretation carried us through to a mid-place finish for the second year in succession. The adjudicators particularly noted our soloists in the second movement so well done to Danny (euphonium), Jess (horn) and Andy (baritone).
If you were there and wondered what all the mice were about, you will just need to trust that it helps to have a clear image of the story told by the music. Perhaps it wasn’t what Morley Calvert had in mind 50 years ago but it worked for us!
