Prestwich Clough – report

May 27, 2022 By Andy Vail Leave a Comment

The band and audience (we think!) enjoyed an afternoon of varied music. Reassuringly the marquee remained full throughout our two sessions. An Abba selection and Sweet Caroline proved big hits with the audience. The band also tried out our March for Whit Friday and two pieces that will be included in our programme at the World Music Festival in the … [Read more...]

Tyldesley concert

April 25, 2022 By Andy Vail Leave a Comment

The band was delighted to attend the parish church of St George in Tyldesley last night for our first concert at this venue. The varied programme began with the Beatles and ended with West Side Story, taking in Crown Imperial, The Vicar of Dibley and Henry V among many others along the way. Our soloists on the night excelled with renditions of Whirlwind, … [Read more...]

The band is delighted to welcome Ian Wagdin and Pete Williams. Ian joined on BBb bass to help us out at the NW Area contest in February and has been persuaded to stay on, seemingly by the amount of cake on offer! Pete responded to our recent advert for a 2nd trombone. He's not a completely new face, having previously helped us out at one-off … [Read more...]

Areas success

February 28, 2022 By Andy Vail Leave a Comment

The band enjoyed a great day out in Blackpool. The 'Areas' made a very welcome return after the pandemic break and it was a great chance to meet the banding community and catch up. We were pleased with our performance. The adjudicators clearly enjoyed it too with comments such as "you pushed the boundaries of style and reading to the limits. Quite … [Read more...]

Welcome to Flixton Band

Flixton Band maintains a proud tradition of music making, which dates back over 140 years. The Band is currently graded first section by the National Brass Band Association of Great Britain, the highest of any Trafford Band. Flixton Band is currently self-funding and does not benefit from sponsorship. Originally formed in 1877, the Flixton Volunteer Band was the result of the formation of the Flixton 1st Volunteer Battalion, Manchester Regiment. (This was the Territorial Army of the period.) The services of the band were in much demand and it gradually became known locally as the Flixton Volunteers Band. … Learn More »

Flixton Band

The band re-formed in 1967, when it became known as the Flixton Silver Band, and was granted permission to use the Urmston coat of arms on band uniforms and stationery. To this day we still use the coat of arms in association with our band.

Flixton Band rehearses on Mondays and Thursdays at the Coach House on Flixton Road. Both rehearsals are 8pm to 10pm.

Thanks to a partnership formed in May 2013 our training band, the Flixton Community Band, rehearses at Flixton Junior School on Delamere Road from 10am to noon each Saturday.
