Nicki Moss – 3rd Cornet

February 2024 – Present

Nicki started playing cornet at 7 years old with North Reddish Junior School and stayed on with them after leaving the school to help the younger children coming through. At 14 Nicki joined Gorton Silver Band on 2nd cornet and stayed for around four years.

Nicki then joined Ashton Under Lyne on 1st horn and progressed to solo horn. When Ashton folded she joined Burnage Band on cornet and switched to 1st horn, sitting next to our very own Claire Byrom. Nicki then joined the newly re-formed Reddish Prize Band on solo cornet where she stayed for many years.

After four years of ‘retirement’ Nicki joined Stockport Silver Band, alternating between solo cornet and solo horn, reunited with Claire Byrom. Despite once again retiring, Nicki continued to turn out with Stockport once a year for Whit Friday.

In 2022 Nicki became the MD of Stockport Silver Band. It was then that she realised how much she missed playing and couldn’t resist when the opportunity came to join Flixton.

Nicki’s most memorable banding moment:

Pontins 1991 – didn’t play at the contest but the 72-hour ‘party’ was memorable

Welcome to Flixton Band

Flixton Band maintains a proud tradition of music making, which dates back over 140 years. The Band is currently graded first section by the National Brass Band Association of Great Britain, the highest of any Trafford Band. Flixton Band is currently self-funding and does not benefit from sponsorship. Originally formed in 1877, the Flixton Volunteer Band was the result of the formation of the Flixton 1st Volunteer Battalion, Manchester Regiment. (This was the Territorial Army of the period.) The services of the band were in much demand and it gradually became known locally as the Flixton Volunteers Band. … Learn More »

Flixton Band

The band re-formed in 1967, when it became known as the Flixton Silver Band, and was granted permission to use the Urmston coat of arms on band uniforms and stationery. To this day we still use the coat of arms in association with our band.
