The band performed yesterday in the First Section at the Red Admiral Entertainments contest, Chorley. We played a 20-minute set of arrangements of music for stage and screen by Alan Menken. This included pieces from Hercules, The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors and Aladdin.
Both the audience and adjudicators enjoyed our performance. We placed third overall and also collected prizes for the most entertaining programme, best composition/arrangement and best flugel/horns.
Special mention for Jess Wilson who played a solo, all those who memorised parts to stand out front and our deps for the day who all performed excellently. Mero’s performance on soprano cornet was noted by an adjudicator as “a super highlight”. There’s nothing like setting the bar high in your first contest!
