Seats available

August 22, 2024 By Andy Vail Leave a Comment

As we enter our short summer break this week we say goodbye to a couple of our stalwarts and invite applications to fill their seats.

We congratulate our (now ex-) Solo Euphonium player, Richard Bond, who has moved onwards and upwards to join Wingates in the Championship Section. This is a great success story for our Flixton Community Band. Richard attended its first ever rehearsal as a five-year-old and picked up an instrument for the first time. Despite the early setback of moving from horn to euphonium (ahem!) he rapidly made progress through to Solo Euphonium in our Community Band. He then moved up to join us, taking on the top seat last year. We wish Richard every success as he continues to flourish.

Also leaving us is our front-row cornet player, Craig Houlton. With new family and a new business something had to give but we very much hope Craig will be staying in touch.

This leaves us with vacancies for a Solo Euphonium player and a front row cornet. If you’re looking for a band in the Manchester area that competes at a high level and has a lot of fun in the process, please contact our Management Team to apply.

Welcome to Flixton Band

Flixton Band maintains a proud tradition of music making, which dates back over 140 years. The Band is currently graded first section by the National Brass Band Association of Great Britain, the highest of any Trafford Band. Flixton Band is currently self-funding and does not benefit from sponsorship. Originally formed in 1877, the Flixton Volunteer Band was the result of the formation of the Flixton 1st Volunteer Battalion, Manchester Regiment. (This was the Territorial Army of the period.) The services of the band were in much demand and it gradually became known locally as the Flixton Volunteers Band. … Learn More »

Flixton Band

The band re-formed in 1967, when it became known as the Flixton Silver Band, and was granted permission to use the Urmston coat of arms on band uniforms and stationery. To this day we still use the coat of arms in association with our band.
