This
photograph was taken in November 1975 to celebrate the first contest win of the
band since it's reformation as Flixton Silver Band in 1967. Competing
in the Manchester District Contest, held at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester, the
band competed in Section C (4th Section), which on the day was adjudicated by
a popular figure of the time - Dick Arrand.Conducted by Musical Director Paul
Crashley, Flixton were awarded 186 points playing the set testpiece, The Seasons,
by John Carr. The First prize of £25 and the T. Reynolds Shield (which is
shown in the photograph), was presented to Band Chairman, Stanley Holden. After
the contest, a number of players took part in a massed band concert. More than
100 players formed what was then, the largest composite brass band, ever to appear
on stage in the country. It was a day, never to be forgotten
by those who took part. |
