Soprano Cornet-
Eddie Hill
I started playing at the age of 11 in my School Band with tuition from Derek Garside ( one of the greatest Cornet Players of his time ). I progressed to Central Manchester Band shortly after – staying for over 10 years and meeting my wife Nicola.
Gypsy In My Blood
We’ve played in several bands together ever since, including Thornsett, Middleton, Golborne, Longridge, Haydock, Pemberton JJB, Wire Brass and now Flixton.
A Man’s Band
The only time we didn’t play in the same band was when I played Solo Cornet and later First Horn at CWS Manchester No Girls allowed in them days – not even on the coach.
Waggin’ it
From time to time I conduct local bands like: Golborne, Coppull, Skelmersdale, Pemberton, Farnworth and many years ago….Flixton.
Highlights
Many highlights but playing in the British Open with CWS Manchester, winning Harrogate with Pemberton and a second place with Wire Brass and of course the band playing at our wedding. ( Not had a good day since !! ).
Ambitions
I hope to die at 97 in the arms of the woman I love after playing Sop in the National Finals ( winning the Solo prize of course ) whilst conducting the band with my left foot and simultaneously eating Spicy Duck with Fried Rice followed by a glass of Shiraz. Just don’t tell the wife about the woman I love bit.
