Solo
Cornet- Tom Hylgaard
Thomas was born and raised in Hadsten
near Aarhus in Denmark. In 1985 he started playing the cornet in Silkeborg FDF
(Boys Brigade). Since then his interest for music led him to The Royal Northern
College of Music, where he in June 2002 finished his Bachelor degree.
During
Thomas' four years at The RNCM he received tuition by the following teachers:
Murray Greig (principal trumpet Opera North), John MacMurray (principal trumpet
The Hallá Orchestra), Patrick Addinal (principal trumpet BBC Philharmonic
Orchestra), Uwe Komischke (professor at the Franz Liszt conservatory in Weimar,
Germany) and Hannes Laubin (principal trumpet Bayrische Rundfunk Symfonieorchester
and professor at The "Hochschule für Musik und Teater, München).
Thomas has also performed with many different ensembles at the college and
outside: from Brass ensemble concert with former Philip Jones Brass Ensemble
members to Co-principal in the International Bachakademie under Helmuth Rilling
and The International Bachakademie Brass Ensemble with whom he has toured Germany.
In
September 2002 Thomas started as Brass Teacher at The Salford Music And Performing
Arts Service, and in May 2003 he was appointed Musical Director of The Hebden
Bridge Junior Band. Thomas is also a member of The Euro Brass Quintet.
