Cornet- Matt Fearn
Matt started to learn cornet at the age of 6 years old under the tuition of Alan Hobson. Brought up and still an active member within the Sally Army, Matthew has had many opportunities to play under many great people such as William Himes, Peter Graham, Stephen Cobb, Kevin Norbury and many more. Banding life at a competition level started in Bolton first of all with the Canon Slade school band before moving to study A-Levels at Bolton Sixth Form college which took him to play with Smithills School brass band and Bolton Youth Brass Band. Many tours were enjoyed whilst playing with Smithills along with many competition victories on a number of stages. On moving to university Matt then joined Yorkshire Coop (now United Coop, Yorkshire) on Repiano. After two years of playing with Coop Matt moved further down the M62 to the Yorkshire Imperial Band, were the chance of being able to play at the British Open and All England Masters was an opportunity not to be missed. After 2 years of enjoyable times at Imps Matt found that the travelling was just too much and in order to further his career in teaching it was time to join a band closer to home. Matthew found his way to Flixton after bumping into Kevin (our MD) and Sarah in Asda! Matthew was welcomed into the band and looks forward to his future at Flixton. Matt currently works at Turton High Media Arts College, Bolton as an ICT/CDT Technician but is hoping to further his education and become a teacher within the next few years.
Although there are many people that have influenced Matt in his banding career, he believed the main influence and support came from his uncle who was always there for him. Unfortunately he has sadly now passed away
