Librarian
- Alison Rowley
Every band would fall apart without a good librarian. Alison Rowley works very hard behind the scenes - she is know to the band as "mother Flixton". Alison is married to Mike, who is the bands's manager and solo euphonium player.
When and why did you first get involved with Flixton Band?
"1997 - the band needed a non-playing person to sort out the library as it have got into a bit of a mess! Also it meant I could share in my husbands interest. I Absolutely love the team comeradery and fun in our band environment"
What roles and responsibilties do you have within the band?
"I maintain the library database and regularly update unlimited disks containing the database. I check the music going in and out and chase missing parts! I also act as a general 'goffer' ie tidying, collection box - anything to brewing up!"
Do you/have you ever played a musical instrument?
"No, but I did try to play the recorder - the best I managed was 2 blind mice (badly!)"
What tips would you offer to other band librarians?
"Don't let any music go out until you know what parts there are and how many in the first place. Check everything when it's back in and case any missing players for parts. If needed have an amnesty as lost music can turn up sooner or later"
What is you favourite piece of band music?
"If Tommorrow Never Comes ( Brook/Blazy) - arranged by Michael Rowley - for me - so I'm naturally biased!" |
