3rd Cornet - Louise Mason

Louise started playing cornet at age 7 whilst living in the Isle of Man as the Manx Youth Band practised at her junior school.  Louise started with their training band and then progressed to the Youth Band.

By the age of 18 Louise had become more focused on socialising with mates than practising her cornet so gave up playing.  In that time, she moved to Manchester from the Isle of Man.  In 2007 Louise went along to the North West Area Championships to watch Manx Concert Brass (senior band to Manx Youth Band) compete and it made her remember how much she used to enjoy playing. Louise hadn't played for over 10 years so it took a while to get the confidence to try again, but eventually she looked around to see if there was a band near Sale.

Louise found Sale Brass and started with their training band in the summer of 2010 and soon progressed to playing in the main band.  A little while after that Chris Noakes, who also used to play for Manx Youth Band, got in touch to say Flixton was looking for cornet players.  Louise went along to a rehearsal and has been playing with Flixton ever since!

Louise's most memorable
banding moment:

"I have fantastic memories of my time in the Manx Youth Band and one of the highlights was a 3 week tour of the North Island of New Zealand that we undertook in 1990"
