| First Horn - Katherine Riding
Katherine has been playing Tenor Horn since the age of seven. She first started playing at her local youth band, now known as Chorley Silver Band. During her time at Chorley Silver, Katherine entered a number of youth and entertainment contests with the band, as well as getting to go on tour to Germany. Also, as a child she took part in a few solo Slow Melody contests.
It wasn’t until she was fifteen that she moved to Valley Brass and she stayed there for about two years. Whilst at Valley Brass, Katherine went on tour on two occasions: France in 2008 and Wales as a small ensemble in 2009.
She then moved on to Greenalls Band and had a short but enjoyable time, leaving on a high after winning several prizes in the 3rd section at the Kirkby Lonsdale contest. After spending a year or so with Greenalls Katherine decided to join us here at Flixton Band on 2nd horn.
Katherine is currently a student at Salford University and studies Music, with the Tenor Horn being her main instrument. She also plays the piano, after having lessons for two years during high school. Katherine takes part in a number of different ensembles at Salford such as the Adelphi brass band, Wind Band and a horn quartet.
