First Horn - Adam Parr

Adam started playing at the tender age of 9 way back in 1995, after a workshop by Haydock youth brass band in primary school caught his interest. He was fascinated by the trombone and really wanted to play one. However, when Adam turned up for his induction day one Saturday afterwards he only had a choice between a cornet, a tenor horn and an E flat bass. He had a go on the cornet and the E flat bass, but totally ignored the tenor horn.

Adam was advised to stay on the cornet, as he was about 4 foot and 4 stone at the time. He played that until the age of 11, before being asked to move onto tenor horn in 1997.

When Adam first moved onto the tenor horn he must have subconsciously been protesting against the fact he couldn't play the trombone, as his sound was often compared to one!

Adam played with Valley brass until 2010 on solo horn travelling to Italy, Holland/Belgium, France twice and a number of different excursions around Wales which were very enjoyable.

Since then he has been quite the band transient; helping out a number of local bands whilst being a signed member of Greenalls band, who are a very welcoming group of people.

Adam does however like to think that now, here at Flixton band, he has a long term home, around a group of dedicated and forward thinking individuals, whom he's confident he can share many successes with in the future.

Adam is currently studying towards a music degree at Salford university due to be completed in 2013. He currently sits 1st horn and Solo horn in the two brass bands there and is enjoying his musical development under Dr. Howard Evans.

Adam's most memorable
banding moment:

"The elation of winning the 2005 4th section national finals with Valley brass band. I know, I know, this seems like a copy of Danny Lowery's memorable moment (we were in the same band) but to beat all those 'adult' bands who had given us no chance before we had played a note, was special. Even more so as the band who had so vocally dismissed our abilities backstage, were sat in front of me when the results were announced. Needless to say, my celebrations were not muted"!
