3rd Cornet- Yvonne Boyle
Yvonne started playing cornet whilst at primary school in Leicestershire, she was initially taught by a family friend, and remembers having to share a cornet and therefore was only able to take her mouth piece home to practice with. She soon joined a local farming family run band, Jarrett's Brass in Sharnford, Leicestershire, and joined her primary and then high school orchestras. Within 2 years Yvonne was sat on the front row playing solo cornet in the junior band and 1 cornet in the adult band. Whilst studying for her GSCEs she received her grade 7 and successfully auditioned for the Leicestershire School of Music (LSM) and played with them from 3 years, one year in their concert band as 1st cornet and 2 with their symphonic wind band as 3 rd and then 2 nd cornet. In this period Yvonne decided to have a change for a while from playing brass band music in the Jarrett's farm cow shed and started playing trumpet in her school jazz band. With the LSM and school jazz band Yvonne when on many musical tours around Europe to locations such as Budapest, Prague and the Black Forest. Yvonne then joined the university performing arts centre whilst studying in Bristol. There she played in the orchestra, jazz, concert, consort bands, and was privileged to play cornet and flugel solos during degree ceremonies in Bristol cathedral. Whilst at university Yvonne spent a year working in Switzerland, there she had a short spell playing in a brass ensemble until her limited German failed her and she discovered rugby and started playing fullback and wing for her local women's team.
When Yvonne graduated from university in 1999 she returned to brass banding and played 1 st cornet and 3 rd Horn for Jubilee Brass (Oxford), over a three year period, where she was also Contest Secretary and saw the band promoted to the 3rd section.
Yvonne then moved to Leeds with her new husband in 2002, and began her studies for a PhD at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manchester. Unfortunately her daily commute prevented her from committing herself to any musical ensemble until she moved to Littleborough, Greater Manchester and soon after joined Flixton Band in 2006.
