3rd Cornet- Rachel Langridge

Rachel was born in Nottingham where she was involved in banding from a young age. Whilst at primary school both Rachel and her sister began playing in the Carlton Silver Band (now Carlton Brass). It soon became a family affair as her younger brother followed suit and her mother became involved in the running of the band. Rachel was involved in Nottingham banding until she went to University.

She studied at Sheffield University for a degree in ‘Anatomy and Cell Biology'. During this time Rachel was involved in the running of the Music Society and eventually became President. Her brass banding was kept up by playing with Dronfield Band.

When she graduated she went back to study for a Postgraduate Cert of Education at Nottingham University. During this time she played for Bestwood Welfare Black Diamond Band.

Rachel then moved to South Manchester where she lives with her partner, Anthony. Upon moving into the area she joined her local Band – Flixton.

Rachel has designed websites for various organisations, both banding and otherwise. She currently is the webmaster of www.flixtonband.org.uk

Rachel's most memorable
banding moment:

"In 2000 Carlton Brass won the Midlands Regional Championships. I had recently left the band to go to University but was there to give my support on the day. Unfortunately I missed half the performance (that was NOT due to being in the bar!) but had my ear pinned to the door for the rest! I didn't miss the results though- the atmosphere was just electric".
