2nd Euphonium- Mathew Stenson

Mathew Started playing the euphonium at the age of 9 in North Wales. After 6 months of playing for St Elfod Junior school he joined the Rhyl Silver Youth Band on 2nd euphonium where he enjoyed numerous successes with the band including gaining North Wales Youth Band Champions two years running, and, attending the European Youth Festival Of Brass both years.

After three years with Rhyl Youth Mathew joined 4th section Conwy Town Band on 2nd euph. He stayed here for 2 years enjoying many successful concerts and competitions including being named 4th section champions at Pontins 2000.

He then moved back to Rhyl, but, this time as Principal Euph for their senior band which at the time was a 2nd section band. The band qualified for the National Finals in Torquay while Mathew was with them and earned a place in the 1st section.

After only a year with Rhyl Mathew moved to 2nd euphonium for Northop Senior Band who are a championship section band. During his time with Northop Mathew enjoyed many high profile events such as carol concerts in the Liverpool Philarmonic Hall and joint concerts with the Birkenhead operatic society as well as being conducted by Kevin Bolton.

Northop's best success during Mathew's time with the band was being placed 2nd at Dobcross on the Whit Friday marches.

Mathew only spent 8 months with Northop due to him moving from North Wales to Manchester.

After spending 5 moths out of banding due to the move Mathew joined Flixton band in November 2003.
