2nd Baritone- Dave Mitten

Dave began playing euphonium in 1977, aged 11 years, at Urmston Boys Grammar School. In 1978 Dave joined Urmston and Davyhulme 'B' Band playing Solo Euphonium. After 5 years he progressed up to the senior band (who later became the Trafford Band), on 2nd Baritone. In 1984 Dave joined Eccles Borough Band, playing Solo Baritone under the baton of Martin Obermuller.Eccles enjoyed much contest success in the
eighties; the highlight for Dave was winning the Fourth Section of the North West Area Brass Championships in 1989, and qualifying for the National Championships in London. During Dave's time at Eccles he toured Germany four times with the band.

In 1990 Dave took a job at Manchester Airport and due to the erratic shift patterns gave up banding. In 1993 Dave was asked to resume banding again, playing 1st Horn at Golborne Band by their then MD - his old friend Martin Obermuller, for the Area Contest in Blackpool.

Dave played with Golborne for six months until the airport shifts took their toll and Dave reluctantly gave up banding again. In January 2003, now working 'normal' hours at the Open University, Dave was tempted back to Eccles Borough, playing Solo Baritone, after a plea from his old banding friend Kevin Donaldson who was conducting the band, to help out at the Area contest.

Dave stayed at Eccles for two and a half years, before joining Flixton in June 2005, on 2nd Baritone.
