In support of the Poppy Appeal 2005 the band performed at the John Alker Hall, Flixton. With a rememberance theme, the band donated all ticket sales to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The band delighted the audience with a broad repetoire. The concert featured 3 main themes - rememberance, a ligher note and finally finishing with last night of the proms! The band opened with Goff Richard's 'Fanfare for a New Age' which set the tone for a fantastic evening. The rememberance theme was echoed throughout the concert with 'Famous British Marches', '633 Squadron' and 'Keep Smiling Through'. Katie Tyson made her debut concert performance on principal cornet and delighted the audience with her rendition of 'Trumpeters Lullaby' by L. Anderson. A lighter note to the concert was added by 'Somewhere Out There' (a track which is featured on our debut CD Bandstand) and 'Gaelforce',
The band ended the night's entertainment in tradtional prom fashion with 'Pomp and Circumstance No.1' by Elgar. The night was a great success and marks the 2nd in a line of local concerts. Our next local Concert is 10th Dec 6pm at Urmston Sports Centre (See Engagments)

Local Concert a great success! On Saturday 4th June the band performed to a full house at Urmston Leisure Centre. This was the first local concert the band has undertaken in the last 10 years! The evening featured the band's soloists Andy Myers (Eb Bass) playing "Teddy Bear's Picnic", Mona Byskov (Horn) with "Over the Rainbow" and the highlight of the night, Mike Rowley and Andy Tyson's Euphonium duet "Another Fine Mess" inclusive with Laurel and Hardy style dancing and antics. The band would like to once again thank PJ Howarth & Son Quality Meats, of Flixton Road for their support with the event. We hope this will be the first of many local-themed concert nights. The night went down a treat with audience and a special mention (and thanks!) must be made for the unexpected donation by Mrs M Thomas, a kind audience member. coming soon photogallery updates of the event

Everyone at Flixton Band, were delighted with the preparations leading up to, and the performance at the North West Regional Championships. It was felt, that the contest performance maintained the band's current high level of consistency. Everyone within the band has been encouraged by the many positive comments made by people whose opinions are respected, regarding the quality of performance given at the contest. Contesting is highly subjective, and from time to time, throws up disappointing results. Flixton Band would like to send congratulations and best wishes to the 3 qualifying bands. The band is now preparing for the Buxton Contest (1st May). |

After a successful end to 2004, 2005 brings fresh challenges for the band. The band is currently preparing for the Preston Contest in Feburary shortly followed the by Area Contest in March. Unfortunately, the band has been demoted to the 3rd Section nationally as of this month due to dissappointing results at the Area Contest during our rebuilding period. The band still holds it's local 2nd Section ranking . The band is working hard to build upon last years contest record and we look forward to the upcoming contests. Pre-contest information is now avaliable for Preston Click Here |
