*3/12/04* The Band ended this years contesting season on a high note as it took the 3rd Prize at the St Helens Contest on the 21st November. This year the organisers, Rainford Band, chose a selection of Salvation Army music to be used in the event. The 2nd Section were handed the delights of Peter Graham's 'Renaissance'...

*2/11/04* Flixton take the 4th Prize at Pontins. Once again Halloween saw the bands take the stage at Pontins, Prestatyn. As always the weekend was a grand success with quality music making, great entertainment and much socialising.
The Set test piece for this years 2nd Section was Bram Wiggin's 'The Deep', commissioned for the recent opening of Hull's Aquarium Centre of the same name. The piece features 3 contrasting movements, descriptively written, relying heavily on rhythmic and dynamic detail. (See Contesting for full story)

*16/10/04* It is with regret that the band announces the death of our band president Ken Rogers. Ken has been associated with Flixton Band since the 1970's where he formed connections with us through his work as a local Councillor and School Governor. In 1981, he was very proud to accept the invitation to become president of the band. The band's thoughts are with his wife, Molly at this sad time. Click here for full story.

*16/10/04* The Band adds to our trophy cabinet once again at the Fleetwood Contest. Playing 'Purcell Variations' Flixton were awarded 3rd Prize at the contest on the 3rd of this month.

*16/10/04* The summer months and the start of the new university term has seen a number of new faces join the band. We welcome Mike Brooks (Horn) and Cerid Grimshaw (Cornet) both who formerly played with Denton Brass. Finally we extend our greetings to Louise who is a student on the banding course at Salford University on Cornet. Unfortunately this time of year did see a sad loss of 2 stirling members of Flixton Band. Leisa Mallalieu, our former Principal Cornet has moved away to Huddesfield to study music and Paul Lynch (Trombone) has started at Warwick University studying Engineering. The band wishes to thank both Leisa and Paul for the fine services they have provided and wish them luck with their studies! |

*31/7/04* The Band welcomes a new arrival- this time not a player (well not yet). The band would like to congratulate our conductor Kevin and his partner Sarah (Baritone) on the birth of their first baby. Caitlin was born at 7.24am this morning weighing a healthy 7lbs 14oz.

*5/7/04* Flixton takes 3rd prize at Rhyl and also a trophy for the best percussion section. For full report click here. After guesting for the band at the contest, the band welcomes Dan as a permanent member of the percussion section (See Personnel)

*12/6/04* Flixton band wishes to welcome Katie Tyson to the backrow. Katie's brother, Andy plays in the band and she is also a member of Stockport Schools Brass Band (See Personnel). The photogallery has been updated with images from last weeks concert at Marple and there is also a new photo of the month caption competition. (See Photogallery)

*30/5/04* Today featured the first summer outdoor concert of the year. The Band performed at Lymm's Canal festival. Playing by the waterfront, the band entertained the audience with delights such as 'Rocky, Goff Richards' Showtime and ORB. Next Sunday the band shall be performing at Marple Conservative Club starting at 8pm. (See Photogallery) for pictures of todays event.

*23/5/04* The Band welcomes Tom Chester on Trombone. Tom shall be taking over the 2nd Trombone chair. Catherine the band's former 2nd trombone player is taking a sabbatical from the band due work and study commitments. With the arrival of our new MD, Kevin, there have been a number of changes in personnel seating. Nikki moves to Rep. Nikki who joined the band in the first instance to help out for the area contest has succumbed to the bands charms and has now signed permanently for the band. Nia has also moved seats joining the Horn Section. The Band wishes to formally welcome both Nikki and Tom and hope their association with us is long and prosperous. (See Personnel)

Mat Stenson has left the band to play at Pemberton Old Wigan Band. We would like to wish Mat good luck at his new band and thank him for the time he spent at Flixton. *17/3/04* Two of Flixton's players are tieing the knot! The Band's 1st Horn player Julie Pickering and Tim Paton who also plays BBb Bass for the band will be wed tommorrow. The Band are delighted at the news and wish the happy couple many happy banding years to come. The Band shall be celebrating the occassion in style on Saturday night. Keep your eyes out for the photos. |

*6/1/04* Due to unforeseen personal reasons, our Musical Director feels the need to take a break from banding, and has unfortunately resigned from the band with immediate effect. Flixton Band formally invite applications for a Musical Director to work with them initially through to the North West Area Championships on 14th March For full press release click here

*21/1/04* Flixton Band is delighted to announce that Peter Lockett will be conducting them at the forthcoming North West Regional Championships. Peter, was the MD of the band during its most successful period. Under his direction, the band progressed from the 4th to 1st Section, and was regarded as one of the most formidable combinations, outside the Championship Section. For full press release click here

*30/1/04* Flixton fills gaps in personnel strengthening Pete's team for the area. The band further welcomes a number of new players. Matt Howcroft joins the band on Repiano. Matt, a student at Cheethams School of Music in Manchester, has previously played with the band and we wish to welcome him back to the team. Jon has moved onto frontrow to accomodate Matthew on Repiano. The band also sees another familar face in the Bass section- Gary Marshall returns to Flixton but this time on BBb. To complete the Bass section filling the gap left by Pete taking up the stick Nia joins on Eb. This month has seen the sad loss of two players. Mark (3rd Cornet) and Graham (Trombone). The band wish to thank the players for all their hardwork they have put into the band and wishes them well. The band have been lucky enough to fill the vacancies and welcome Katherine McMahon (Trom) and Nikki (Cornet) to the team. See Personnel |
