Flixton Band

Contest Reports- St Helens Contest 2004
21st November 2004, Theatre Royal, St Helens

The Band ended this years contesting season on a high note as it took the 3rd Prize at the St Helens Contest on the 21st November. This year the organisers, Rainford Band, chose a selection of Salvation Army music to be used in the event. The 2nd Section were handed the delights of Peter Graham's 'Renaissance'. At the core of this music lies Joy Webb's prayer song 'Come Into Our World'. The piece was a popular choice with the bands allowing the soloists to shine, with some technical sections that would test any band at this level. Drawn number 2 Allan Ramsey enjoyed Flixton's performance feeling the music created "the right atmosphere".

The band wishes to congratulate both Yorkshire Bands on their performances and wishes them the best wishes for next years area contest.

The St Helens Contest marks the end to this years contesting. The band is delighted that since the area we have not come out of the prizes in the 5 contests we have entered. This is testament to the hard work of the players and our MD Kevin Gibbs. We look forward to the challenge of 'Tam O Shanter's Ride' in March.
