Preston marked the start of the 2006 contest season and, drawn number 8, the band took to the stage confident after the recent successes at Pontins and Wilkinsons late last year. Preparations had been going well and the band didn't leave the stage dissappointed! A excellent performance pleased the audience and adjudicator alike. The piece, Prisms by Peter Graham, was a difficult test for this section but the adjudicator Barry Thompson complimented the band on a "sensitive performance" congratulating the soloists stating "all solo passages played nicely indeed!" Andy Tyson, the band's principal euphonium player, was awarded a trophy for the best soloist which really was the icing on the cake.
The contest marked the final performances of Nicolette Hilton and Anthony Bartley who are both moving to pastures new - what a way to go out! We would like to wish both players good luck with their new band's and thank them for their services.
The band would like to congratulate Greenalls and Blackpool brass on their placings and would like to wish them luck for the pending area contest.
