Reports- Pontins 2007
3rd November 2007, Pontins, Prestatyn, North Wales.

The Flixton Band were thrilled to be crowned champions once again last weekend, completing a run of four consecutive wins in six months. The band competed at the Pontin’s Brass Band Championships in Prestatyn, North Wales on Saturday 3rd November where they walked away with the title of 3rd section champions aswell as a cheque for a massive £1,750. Adjudicators Lloyd Landry and Jim Davies said that they “were in no doubt” that Flixton’s was the most accomplished of the thirteen performances of Peter Graham’s Northern Landscapes on the day. This latest win means that the band have not been bettered in the contesting arena since March.
Musical Director Iain McKnight said, “This is a fantastic win for the band, particularly as it has come only three weeks after our win in the second section at Fleetwood. The band responded fantastically in preparation, and their hard work really complemented my own personal reading of the music. I am also delighted that I have been able to consolidate my own personal 100% record of wins with the band!”
“The cash element of the prize is also an incredible bonus, and will certainly help us to develop our activities over the coming months,” continued Iain. “The only downside of the weekend was that I had to honour my promise to get a round of drinks in for the band after we’d won – but it was worth every penny to be a part of the celebrations that night!”
Further comments on the day’s performance can be heard on brass website www.4barsrest.com, where Iain was interviewed for the site’s contest podcast.
