Team Tyson lead Flixton to Victory at the Pontins Championships...
...with the band's Principal Cornet and Principal Horn away visiting family to arrange their upcoming wedding, it was the time to let youth shine through and for 16 year old Katie Tyson to take the end chair at a national competition. Katie was backed up by her brother, Andy, who had also had a promotion for the contest. The pair played with real style and grace and demonstrated the real depth of quality within the band. The performance of Howard Snell's 'Excelsior' went down a storm with the audience and adjudicators, Ian Brownbill and David Horsfield. In Recognition the band was awarded first prize. The band thrived on the technicality and the band's MD, Kevin Gibbs was able to shape a crafted musical performance. Special mention has to me made Katie and Andy for their superb playing and also to Julie who stepped up to Solo Horn. The contest also marked the final appearance of Nikki Williamson as she heads to Birmingham to Study at the University. The band is busy preparing for a local remembrance concert to be held in Flixton (keep watching for details) and looks forward to the Wilkinsons Open Championships at St Helens on the 20th November.
