What are the National Finals and why is this such a big occassion for Flixton Band?
The National Finals is the most prestigious contest in the banding calendar. During March bands from all over the country compete in a qualifying contest called 'the Regionals' or 'the Area Contest'. Qualifiers from the Regional Contest represent their area at the National Finals which are held in September. This March Flixton Band, alongside Rainford Band were invited to the National Finals to represent the North West. Click Here for coverage of the event. A total of 17 bands from London and Southern Countries, West of England, North of England, North West, Midlands, Yorkshire, Scotland and Wales will take the stage in Harrogate.
This is the first time since 1998, where they competed in the 2nd Section, that the band has qualified for the National Finals. The band represented the North West region in the 3rd Section of the National Championships in both 1990 and 1991. In 1992 the band was promoted to the 2nd Section where the band once again qualified for the Nationals and took the runner up spot at the Contest.
The winning band will take home the title of 'National 3rd Section Champions of Great Britain' and gain straight promotion to the 2nd Section.
