Contest
Reports- Kirkby Lonsdale 2007
17th June 2007, Kirkby Lonsdale
The village of Kirbky Lonsdale, on the edge of the Lake District, was the setting for a contest on the 17th June. Flixton Band attended the contest, which is in it's 10th year, for the first time. The weather the week before the contest had left much to be desired, but come the day the sun was shining. After marching into the square playing "Death or Glory", the band took the stage to peform a test piece, hymn tune and contest march. The band chose to play 'Mephistopheles', 'St Clement' and the test piece 'Oceans' by Goff Richards. The day marked MD Kevin Gibb's last engagement with the band (See Press Release). Kevin departs from the band after a highly successful 3 years. Kirkby Longsdale was a happy send-off for Kevin. The band marked the end of his leadership by bringing home 5 trophies: 'Best 3rd Section band', 'Best March', 'Best Hymn tune', 'Best Overall band' and 'Winning Conductor'.
