On the 6th of May 2007 , Flixton Band travelled to the Peak District town of Buxton to compete in the brass band contest being held there at the historic Pavillion Gardens. The band had not competed at Buxton since 2005, when they won 1st Prize
Competing in the 3rd section, much thought was given to the choice of test-piece to play.
In the end, the piece they played was "The Plantagenets" by Edward Gregson , in some ways a very brave choice for the 3rd Section.
However, all the hard work put in by the Band in the weeks leading up to the contest paid off as Flixton Band were announced the winners of their section, by 2 clear points!
In his remarks of the band's performance, the adjudicator, Colin Hardy, said "A difficult piece chosen but well done for a fine effort" and "A job well done".
